Training Day

So, I didn’t share with you how my Tuesday training day went. I left training and then had to spend all day on my account at their site, so I was busy, busy, busy all week. Today, my 11th training session, and it was all cardio - YUCK.

Trainer K made me walk the treadmill for 5 minutes to get my legs warmed up and then on to the elliptical. OMG, I have told you guys before, I am not elliptical material. I honestly burn so bad on that machine within the first 3 minutes that I honestly can’t move my legs anymore. My feet hurt and my toes cramp. Yea, I’m a wimp.

Finally within about 5 minutes she took me off because I couldn’t stand it anymore and put me back on the treadmill. With steep elevation and going about 5 miles per hour, I was running on the freaking treadmill. OK, I haven’t run in, well, over 12 years. Yep, 12 years is about right - military - yep that was it. I looked like an idiot!

For 20 minutes I was speed walking and running, speed walking and running and then after sweating my ass off, it was over just as fast as it started. No more work, now just hurting. I really like lunges now :) I really like the sauna too! After 30 minutes in there, I was done and on my way home.

My legs still feel like jello. I have had to walk around every 20 minutes or so because my body tightens up, but I am feeling better now and I can look forward to kickboxing on Saturday. Fun, fun! OK, so that was easier to write out then to actually look forward to kickboxing, but hey kickboxing is rough, but my butt will be there!

Wow, can’t tell you how hard today really was for me to go work out. I’ve been doing some cardio this week, but since I had a sick child Tuesday and yesterday I had meetings all day long from 7:30 AM until 5:00 PM, I couldn’t work out with my trainer; until today.

I can tell I haven’t been put through the ringer all week like she does for me because I felt so out of synch training today. I mean, I did it and I can tell I worked, but I was definitely not in a flow today.

Trainer K worked me today, concentrating on my core. Another round of intense crunches and twists - all kickboxing basics, really using my stomach, back, and waist. She showed me how she wanted each to flow into the other and that was that.

For a while the burn was so intense, I had to take a beak. I knew if I kept going I would have puked. I caught my breath, took a few more deep ones, and then right back at it.

I don’t feel to terrible after, and actually feel pretty good. Yes, I’m tired and would love a nap and I think that is just exhaustion from having no intense anything to jumping full throttle into it today.

Next week I measure. YEAH!

Trainer K showed me a new friend today. Oh how I use to hate those lunges. Now they are the love of my life compared to the  *gulp* stability ball! I hate it! My abs are on fire and I really want someone to put them out for me. Please? When she said, “Ab workout.” OK. Then she said, “We will get a whole body workout from this.” Again, OK. She showed me the ball, I was ready to go. How stupid the newbie is.

I didn’t think anything of it. Never used a stability ball before. Remember, no clue about working out. I should have that made into a tattoo on my forehead. Back to the story. To me the ball was plastic filled with air; a bundle of bouncing joy to help me get into shape. Well, maybe next month it might be a happy bundle, but today, oh no, it was torture.

It was a total body workout. You literally have to use your entire core and concentration to keep yourself on the ball. I rolled a few times, not off, but around. The power needed in your legs - thighs and butt - to keep you in one location and then using your core to keep you on the ball; that alone helped me sweat enough to keep me good for exercise until next week. Unfortunately, Trainer K didn’t let me off that easy. She threw in the ab workout too!

Now, today wasn’t about reps. It was all timed. So, normally abs are say 3 sets of 25. Not today. Today, I did 3 sets, but each one minute long with a rest in between. So, instead of 75 total, it was up to around 150 or something like that. Upper abs, lower abs, obliques, oh my! And not just one form of crunch for upper abs, oh no, there were like four versions for each: upper, lower, and obliques. Oh yes, oh my.

Then of course we had to throw in some thighs and butt into just staying on the ball while trying to crunch. Boy, I can tell this is a technique I am going to have to master, and soon. Trainer K plans to make the stability ball my friend. When that happens, it means I am going to be using it almost EVERY session. Happiness is just poring out of me, can’t ya tell?

Now, I get to look forward to waking up tomorrow in pain and kickboxing on Saturday. Wish me luck!

If ever there was a dreaded day to look forward to, this day would be it had I know in advance what she would put me through today. I’m in pain, I hurt, and I can’t sit down! Oh yes, this was not just a whole body anything, this was bluntly - Ass Day! And my ass hates Trainer K for it!

Of course, you know how my day starts out - WARM UP. Trainer K was already there when I showed up from a previous session - damn! She caught me. Right away she sticks me on the elliptical. I hate her. Oh thank you - 7 minutes never looked so good. Time to get off. Thighs burn, butt burns, and she is smiling at me.

What is on the drill today? My favorite lunges, squats, and stances, UGH! Twice around the room on the lunges, so not a regular what 35 - oh no, she upped it. I did about 60 lunges and wanted to lunge at her afterwards. OMG, help me, my legs are like jello and I can’t walk.

Then what does she shove down my throat? Squats. WTF!? Are you nuts? And not just squats, 3 different forms of squats, in a fluid motion, so basically 3 squats equaled one, 3 sets of 12. You know, there is just something about a personal trainer when they can watch you in pain and then -  smile :D

Best was saved for last. After all of my butt and thigh work, time for some core love. Again, the stance as if you are going to do a lunge, she hands me my weights, and off I go. Twisting at the hips and waist, holding out the weights, for 75 lovely painful twists to work my abs. I flowed right into 75 crunches, then into 75 side crunches - which in my world is technically 150 crunches - 75 on each side.

Finally, that was that, Trainer K said adios and I couldn’t move. I went into the back room, laid down on a mat, and literally felt sick to my stomach. That was the hardest core workout ever for me. So, I caught my breath, drank a ton of water, took my shower, and now I am SOOO craving a Hostess Twinkie!

I know, I know, it’s late. Better late than never. I went to training today, came home, and that was all I remember. Thankfully it was dad’s day to handle the kids, because I slept! I slept pretty much the day away. I woke up, got some tacos, and then decided to write this.

So, it was my day off, plus being Good Friday my office was closed, so dedication to working out is when you get up on a day you should be sleeping in just to go sweat. Since my trainer couldn’t train on our normal day, yesterday, I got my butt up and trudged off to the gym.

I got there early, so I did my 15 minutes on the treadmill to warm up and then it was time to burn. My favorite thing in the world - LUNGES - is what Trainer K surprised me with first. WTH!? Did I not die enough the other day? UGH!!! I did them - 35 of them - and all I have to say is I better have a butt and thighs of steel when I am done.

After the lunges - time to get the heart rate up. She had me doing jumps/slides… like skiing and then jumping jacks, but not. I Know, no clue. I haven’t done a jumping jack since, hmm… well, anyway. I know I had to look like an idiot, hope someone got a kick from my suffering. With my heart rate up it was time to kill my core. Abs are such a joy to work on.

Trust me, we worked my poor abs. No clue what they are called (quite honestly she doesn’t call anything by a name, she just shows me) but lots of kickboxing moves - twists at the hips and stomach to get lots of motion from the abs. Trainer K has me do each move in sets of 25, 5 moves, a total of 100 ab killers! I felt like I was going to puke. OMG! I thought I hated lunges. OK, so I still hate lunges. WTF, I hate it all, but I do it.

On to arms, heavy free weights and struggling! These are pretty normal, 4 moves, 3 sets of 12, but she makes me do them all in one motion basically. All 4 different moves as one set, one motion, then I can rest and do it again. Talk about struggling! I have some weak ass arms. The only good thing about these - it helps lift what having two kids killed :)

A good training session. Yes, it was good and I will admit, it is hard work, I hate it and wish that the magic pill would be made sooner, rather than later, but I am dedicated to getting it done. Oh, by the way - drum roll please - I have gone down one pant size. Not a big change, but definitely enough to say maybe go back for some more pain!
